Time for another trip report! Flew out of Seattle on the morning of Saturday, May 18. After taking nearly an hour to get through security at Sea-Tac Airport (WTH!) the stress level was rising. Please don’t let me miss my flight to Reno.
Look at all these happy people!
But I finally made it through that mess and was on my way to my beloved Reno!
Hello, Mount Rainier.
An hour and 40 minutes later I was in Reno. Timing for the shuttle was perfect as it was already there at the airport. I had 3 nights comped at Silver Legacy. Well, apparently, I can say goodbye to my favorite Panoramic category “end of the hall” rooms (unless I want to pay extra for them). My former host at SL no longer works there. So when I called the reservation number they of course would only comp me in a lower level room category (my former host would always give me a complimentary upgrade to the Panoramic rooms). Those rooms sure were nice while they lasted! I tried to inquire before this trip who my new host would be but was told I never got one assigned. Translation: you don’t spend enough money to be hosted. I had always wondered how I had a host in the first place.
Instead, I took advantage of an email I received giving me an offer to upgrade my stay. It was only $8.00 a night to upgrade to a newly remodeled Superior room. Wait, what? I didn’t know that SL was updating their rooms so this was a total surprise! The email stated you are not guaranteed to get the upgrade and will be notified upon check-in. Well, I got the upgrade! Woo hoo! And for some reason they never did charge me the upgrade fee either (yes, I was willing to fork over $24.00 to stay in a new room).
Welcome to the newly remodeled 30th Floor! Not only are the rooms new but the public spaces on that floor too – the carpets, the lighting. Everything looks so nice. They really did a fabulous job and great color scheme. Apparently it’s going to take a year or two to get all the rooms done.
Oh, and in that cabinet under the tv there is a refrigerator and a safe.
Say goodbye to those old, crappy coffee makers. They’ve updated to Keurig.
The view from my room.
The weather was not very good on this trip – cold and cloudy most of the time. I could even see it snowing in the distance. It is mid-May, right?
After getting settled in the room it was time to walk around the properties and see what’s new. I believe this used to be a Harley-Davidson shop near Rum Bullions but now it’s TopGolf Swing Suite. It’s a virtual reality entertainment place. I didn’t go in but if that’s your thing go check it out.
Across from El Jefe’s Cantina at Circus Circus they used to have this little room of slot machines which I liked to play in. But apparently they got wind of the fact that I liked it in there and walled it off.
Why do they do such things?
Nothing has happened with the old SL buffet space. Still looks as it did last October when it closed down.
Uneventful gambling on Saturday afternoon.
For someone who is no longer hosted I am still getting awesome benefits! For the first time ever, after 25+ years of going to Reno, I got a complimentary cruise! I am so excited! I had to go to the Eldorado Convention Center on Saturday evening to pick up my cruise certificate.
I have already booked my cruise to the Caribbean in January.
It’s Saturday night and it’s time to gamble! Here are some of my slot hits.
Finished off the night with some Hidden Pizza before bed.
On Sunday for lunch it was time to head out of the casino. According to Zydeco’s review, it was a must to get Kwok’s Bistro on the radar, um, so I did. What a great little place with excellent service as well. Lunch consisted of pot stickers, Kung Pao chicken and a glass of wine. This place might become a regular stop on future Reno visits.
Sunday night I had a comped ticket to The Illusionists show at the Eldorado Showroom. Magic shows are not really my thing but the show was okay.
After the show it was time to chill and listen to music at my favorite Silver Baron Lounge. Aaahhh, life is good.
Nighty night.
The sun finally came out on Monday.
Monday morning I treated myself to a deep tissue massage at the beautiful, new SL spa. What a great job they did on that space.
Then spent a little time in this salt room after the massage.
After a wonderful massage it was time to head down to the sports book and place my annual tradition bet that the Seahawks will win the Super Bowl.
Then headed over to Circus Circus and had lunch at The Habit Burger Grill.
Then it was time for my “last hurrah” of gambling. This was the biggest slot hit I had during the trip and luckily it was on my last day so I brought all of it home with me.
As I was getting ready to say goodbye to the casino and go back to the room I decided I better check the kiosk to make sure I didn’t have any free play left and it’s a good thing I did. I won $75.00 in free play on that Legacy Video Lotto game! Didn’t win anything from that free play but it was fun to play an extra hour or so “on their dime.”
Well, here it is Tuesday morning already. Time to head home. I don’t feel like walking 563 miles so I better get on this plane. Took off from Reno an hour late due to "Sea-Tac air traffic control issues." The pilot said we were going to "wait it out" in Reno so as not to just keep circling Sea-Tac until we could land, I guess. Whatev. I swear, Sea-Tac is fast becoming on the busiest airports in the US. Note to self - try not to fly out of Sea-Tac on weekends during Alaska cruise ship season!
Goodbye Reno, I will miss you.
I hope to make it back in the fall season this year, maybe November.
Another awesome trip in the books! Until next time, Reno.

Thanks for the trip report. Congratulations on some nice slot hits. Go Hawks! I hope wifey and I can make our next trip soon. We normally fly out of Portland (PDX) but wifey is shying away from flying since the 747 max issues. It's a 10 hour drive for us but I'll drive it again to keep her happy and us both in Reno. |

Thanks for posting! About time someone did.
Looks like you had a fun trip. The SL rooms sure look much nicer from when i stayed there forever ago.
I dropped my friend off last June at seatac. By the time he walked thru the security line, it was over a mile in steps. He missed hia flight. I dread going there and havent flown in so long due to the craziness there. My friend just flew out of oaine field in Everett to Vegas i guess it was a great experience. They do have flights to reno from tjere but non are non stop unfortunately.
I havent been to reno basically in 2 years now. Minus my trip last aug which wasnt much of a gambling trip. I miss it! I still can log in to my account and get free rooms at harveys and harrahs in tahoe whuch seems nuts since its been so long. My Host at Peppermill will always hook me up fortunately. I need to go back soon!! |
