Our traditional guys March Trip got cancelled this year for March Madness as everything shut down 4 days before we were supposed to take off. We thought we'd head down in the Fall for a change to watch some football and play some cards. There were 7 of us in the group. We stayed at the Eldorado. The shuttle isn't running right now so we took a quick taxi ride to the ROW. Check in was smooth- our rooms were clean as always. Headed straight to Roxy's for a martini or two before we head to gamble. Martini's were just as good as I remember them especially that second one. I love Roxy's! Then headed to Brews Brother for pizza. Went down to play Black jack and we were shocked to find every darn table had a $25 minimum. Too steep for this guy as that would just go too darn fast. 3 seats to each table and no one was playing, which just looked goofy! There still seemed to be quite a few people there playing slots and milling around so that was great to see. We bit the bullet and headed for the Cal Neva which is always an experience on Friday night or any night for that matter. $10 tables so we played for a while and had a good time. They were REALLY stringent on making sure that anyone with you stood way back as they had lines to make sure no one was near you. I felt completely safe albeit a little goofy but it was fine. Fun to see my friends and gamble again. They didn't take the COVID stuff lightly at the Casinos.
Saturday got up had coffee and early start as I wanted to get a spot and watch football. Getting a spot wasn't a problem. The Preakness was going on so that was fun. A bunch of the guys went to play golf so after betting and watching football for a good part of the day. I did walk over to the Sands and played a bit of black jack there. The Sands was busy and it was nice to see them still plugging along. Man we used to have some fun there! I went out and up to the pool to enjoy some sunshine. It was SO nice and hot out at the pool at the Eldorado a bit later. Fun way to spend the afternoon and get a break from the smoke. Definitely a different crowd in the Fall then when we are there in March. Much smokier as I'm pretty sure there were some guys there that weren't intending on gambling rather than just hanging out. It was fine and Casino again seemed pretty busy with slots. It was fun to see that.
At night we went to Roxy's of course and then Sushi. It was awesome. I rather like that combo! We then headed back to the Cal Neva but I didn't stay so long as the golfers were really lighting it up and I didn't see any chance I could hang with those boys. Back to the Row to study my NFL picks for the next day. I don't think my homework necessarily paid off as I won some but gave my fair share back as well. Sunday watched NFL games and made bets all day. Awful Sunday night game 49ers and Eagles. Yuck! Then had dinner at Brews Brothers. Another fun day. Back home the next day.
Overall we had a really nice time. The Row and Cal Neva definitely are taking the precautions and we always felt safe. Not as many places to eat open so less choices for food of course no buffet. Still had great food. I have NO idea why the table minimum would be $25 especially when for the most part no one was playing. Craps was $25 as well which is just crappy! Out of my comfort zone for sure. It was so nice to see some of the people that work at the Row that we have seen year after year. I cannot wait for this all to pass and hopefully get things back to normal.
Sorry I didn't try the slots as I know most of you love that stuff. I did play some poker at the machine at the Brews Brothers when I waited for my Chicken Sandwich if that counts. Lost $20 but I managed to stretch it out.
If you are thinking of going to Reno my vote is that you book your trip now and go have fun! I am already planning my trip for March and I can't wait!

Happy to read a current report. Thanks Dave. Sounds like a great time. Weird about those pricey BJ minimums. Glad you ventured out to the Sands and Cal-Neva. Two of my favorite places.
