|
|
So, I've been collating my e mail & USPS offers, checking the event schedules, checking gas prices, inventorying my stash of deuces, practicing my 3x, 4x, 5x craps online and blackjack.
One of my favorite scenes from years past is driving thru Susanville in a torrential downpour rainstorm as 150 Outlaw Harleys flying OUT of Reno as Street Vibrations was wrapping up. Since THAT is two weeks before the Italian Festival, I figured the timing was perfect. Besides, I've always had a good time on that weekend. (Scroll down the TRs to the 2015 version: "JD turns Italian" thread) And if I'm going, I need to use up ALL of my offers. Yes, 14 days sounds about right. Let me check my work schedule..... What luck! I happen to have that two weeks available.
So my Siena offers are gone as are my Comstock, Cal Neva's Oslow/Riverboat, Pioneer, Sundowner, Silver Club and JA Nugget. They used to love me. But love is a fleeting thing.
BUT I have a few new friends. So far, these are Boomtown, Atlantis, Sands, GSR & MAYBE a Silver Legacy since I am now a BLUE card but have nothing in "my offers" online. Eldo & Harrah's used to be fun NSA flings but they apparently have more lasting relationships.
I've had my attorney review some of these offers which all seem to be drawn up with more than a few fishooks and "gotsyas". More on this later.
So in the spirit of pimping for comments, I figured THIS trip report might bump that South Dakota TR out of the # 1 comment thread. I could use some help.
Besides, it's 97 degrees in Pornland today (26 Aug) , I need to get down to Reno de Genero for a post Olympics cool down. Sept 25 - Oct 10 sounds about right.
As usual, I will NOT be making advance reservations since most of my trips involve consumption of adult beverages (of various costs) so I plan on getting by on my wits, good looks and last minute charm. Also of varying success. So I always have my 15 passenger van as a DUI prevention fallback . "My name is Axel Foley, I'm a motivational speaker and I live....."
So we have one month for y'all make some suggestions, pimp out your favorite ex, write a phone number on the bathroom wall or make any suggestion OTHER than "Take more money".
As always, comments bring responses. Postings made under the influence will have priority. MY reply probably will be as well.
Pencils UP.....
....Begin. |

Oh, I am packed and on board already. I want to know each of the beers, wines, and liquors of which you partake, for one thing. And I want all the details on what blackjack rules at the tables are like these days...but maybe that's not your thing? I seem to recall reading more craps adventures...well, the devil's in the details, as they say, and that's the guy I want to hear about! |

|
|
"RULES? We don't have no RULES. I don't have to show you no stinking RULES!"
Many years ago, I was an active BJ player. But when they went 6/5 several years ago, I quit. I did vary my bets a lot and I found it hilarious I was once accused of counting. After two drinks, I can barely add up my own hand, let alone keep track of an entire deck. I sometimes have to rely on the toes viewable in my sandals.
My LAST trip in March, I noticed in the larger casinos with multiple 21 tables in play each SEEMED to have different rules.
In the ELDO and SL last time I noticed: Single deck BJ payed 6/5. Double or Triple deck PAYED 3/2 but with restrictions on dbl down (only 10 & 11) and after splitting and other gotsyas. 6 deck shoe: 3/2 BJ and liberal rules on splitting and double downs.
But I will TRY to get a detailed list of rules on my trip....might have to deuce a dude or dup. Any bets if they write it down? Or all is verbal only?
I'll bet Tim Speed knows... or at least says he does. |

My bad. Well, you know who I meant. Expect more faux pas when I actually GET to Reno. Most of my posts are post adult beverage consumption.
The point I was trying to make is if I find myself up in Virginia City, listening to a great band and come down with altitude sickness, I'd rather not even be advanced booked into a mid week room if I get charged for no showing. So I wait until I'm in the casino parking lot before I call with a, " I was wondering if the offer you guys sent me would be good TONIGHT?"
The big van is perfect for that occasion when I really do not want to drive for some reason.... even if I don't have a parking spot, "....down by the river...". |

Hey, JD...give me a call and we'll go out and have a wild time so I can hijack your trip report again. This time I'll come up with more creative embellishments (AKA downright lies). |

Preliminary plans call for MY arrival Sunday as Street Vibes ends. With any luck it'll be raining hard again as I watch the outlaws get soaked. It's the only time I can laugh at them without getting pounded into the ground.
And I have friends from these parts in a band playing at Gilley's Thurs, Fri & Sat :
http://www.jessieleighofficial.com/
at Sparks Nugget. She freaked out when I told her what happened outside Trader Dicks a few years ago. She'd never heard of it. After talking to her Thursday, I got an e mail from Nugget promoting a NIGHT RANGER
http://nightranger.com/
concert in the Nugget Showroom the same night they are doin their Country gig at Gilleys. Should be an interesting mix of Bikers, 80's Hair Band fans and Country Western Boot Skootin line dancing.
I'm trying to talk them into hanging out an extra day & taking them up to VC and see if they can get a gig at the Red Dog.
Read my last year TR from Boomtown.... I gotta take you flyin in the flight simulator.... my Boomtown offer is now THREE nights...( see best comps thread).
Do I need to buy a new paper mache bird for Charlie & Higgins?
Sounds like a plan.... PUSH THE BUTTON !!!
See ya in a month. |

Great. Looking forward to seeing you and slapping a few more buttons. Please, no more paper birds. I'm still finding fragments of the last one. Charlie and Higgins had way too much fun reducing it to confetti. After overcoming their fear of it, that is. |

Ray Davies of the Kinks has a warning about those adult beverages we all crave. https://youtu.be/YuLzmupBTMs. No, I'm not reformed - this video doesn't scare me...hic.

Salem Gambler: Oh ya.... I drive right past your house on my way. Stand out on I-5 about 4 am on Sunday morning and I PROMISE to stop and pick you up. UNLIKE Alison that left me out there for three days before I figured out she wasn't taking me with her. By the way, the band mentioned above (Jessie Leigh) will be playing in SALEM at South Liberty Bar & Grill Oct 1 while I'm still in Reno.
I guess if I hang out with the BIG chief of all the outlaw bikers, JOHN... I should be safe. Even if he's a little tuckered out after STREET VIBRATIONS.
And BC DAVE: You compare me to those 60 something, burned out drinkers from the 60's? Oh? Nevermind.
As always.... all comments and thread high jacking welcomed. Be part of the EPIC TR of all time ! Suggestions for comps, cheap eats, cheap thrills and entertainment will be considered and YELPED. |

Is THIS your card, spdmrcht?
http://www.rgj.com/picture-gallery/news/crime/2014/03/02/recent-local-crime-mug-shots/5950409/
I hear ya, spdmrcht. I've never actually have been a crime victim in Reno (other than the old casino bait & switch) but I think one was attempted years ago near the Comstock.
Walking East on 4th, a down and outer reached out his hand as if to shake my hand.... I reached behind my back while brushing his hand aside and not allowing him to grab my arm. I had no weapon but I looked like I was reaching for a concealed gun. I had quite a bit of cash on me and enough drinks to not give anything up without a fight. He hesitated, I stopped in my tracks keeping one hand behind my back.
And I never break stride when asked, "Do you have a light?" Or "Have a match"?
But that doesn't mean I've never been mugged on a craps table. |

You are committed now for a trip. Since you posted this in the trip reports, there is no turning back now.
2 weeks is a long time and I don't think you have enough free nights to pull this off? Check with Harrah's on line. I have never played with my card ever at the Reno property, but when I put in my card number I get 5 free nights during the week. I have no USPS offers from them, but I guess they would be happy if I showed up.
If things get bad, make use of that 15 person van. Drive up and down So. Virginia Street with a sign advertising dry sleeping for $5. You should be able to raise at least $50.........be sure to air out the van after one of those nights. You could even advertise dry sleeping plus breakfast for $7. Give those that go for the upgrade a pop tart in the morning. You will still be money ahead. |

Yah, thats me or it. The closet I got was a guy on the bus, didn't have
a valid ticket and refuse to get off the bus, then a few months later he shot a guy in Siris. he was turning on the riders. |
